One of Meghan Markle’s dearest friends, pilates instructor Heather Dorak, has taken to social media in defense of the Duchess in light of the increased tabloid scrutiny she’s been facing ahead of her and Prince Harry’s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.
“It’s hard for me to watch her go through all that she has to as the Meghan the press can love to hate,” Dorak began the Instagram post. “Mostly because it’s so far from the Meghan that I know. Sweet. Kind. Always showing up! Two weeks ago, she was the first to surprise me with a gift after my knee surgery. 17 years ago, she walked into my fledgling Pilates studio and instantly became my rock in all things early 20’s – career, love, figuring out how to adult. Since that day, she has never stopped being one of my brightest sources of light.”
She continued, “It may be hard to see, but she lives for the little, thoughtful things – flowers for no reason, a random sweet, handwritten note. She’s always been truly wonderful … M, I love you.”
Dorak’s sentiments echo those of model Chrissy Teigen, who also came to Markle’s defense, suggesting the negative attention she’s receiving could have dire consequences for the pregnant public figure.
“This Meghan Markle s–t is hitting too close to home for me,” Teigen tweeted Friday. “These people won’t stop until she miscarries. F–king stop it.”
Buckingham Palace announced its intention to investigate claims of bullying made against Markle by a former staffer, even as others in Markle’s past have flocked to her defense.
Pauline Maclaran, author of “Royal Fever: The British Monarchy in Consumer Culture,” said this week that the upcoming Duke and Duchess’s CBS special is “a bigger danger than the Prince Andrew car-crash interview.”
“I think that Meghan is going to get a lot of sympathy, particularly from American audiences, about her position being untenable,” Maclaran said.
