Taylor Swift turned 31 today, on Dec. 13, just days after releasing another surprise album “evermore” – a sister soundtrack to her few-months-old album, “folklore.” The ninth, indie alt-rock, album consists of 15 tracks, co-written with Aaron Dessner of The National and Bleachers’ Jack Antonoff; it features artists Bon Iver and Haim.
Although some fans had yet to even process “folklore”or see an in-person concert cycle that would typically follow an album, “evermore” brought to fans near and far soothing anthems of yearning, heartbreak, and life in quarantine.
Once Swift is back on the road to tour, it’s likely she’ll revisit a venue she holds dear: Gillette stadium. Swift, who wrote a song about the eclectic history of her Rhode Island home, is no stranger to New England. Here’s a look back at some of her local moments over the years that fans remember all too well.
#1 In 2008, she opened for Rascal Flatts at the Comcast Center in Mansfield, Mass.
#2 The Fearless tour, at Gillette stadium in 2010, when she was the first female to solo headline a concert at the venue.
#3, “Mine” in 2010. A little north of Boston, Swift spent part of her summer in Kennebunkport, Maine, to shoot and premiere the debut of her music video, “Mine.”
#4, #5, and #6 The Speak Now tour in 2011: The infamous “rain show” performance of “Long Live” that Swift would go on to reference over the years as one of her most memorable concert moments in her life. Followed by “Sparks Fly” a music video which features Foxborough concert footage from that same tour date.
#7 and #8 Red Tour in 2013, when Taylor Swift subsequently reminisced on the 2011 “rain show” and talked about “Boston Strong” in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombing.
#9 Taylor Swift visits 7-year-old Jordan Nickerson at Boston Children’s Hospital, in 2014.
#10 and 11 The 1989 tour at Gillette Stadium in 2015, that sold out within minutes.
#12 and 13, Reputation tour in 2018, which she ended with her 10th stadium performance at Gillette and called back to all her prior shows and the fans that have followed her through all.
Loverfest East, Swift’s seventh album’s Gillette stadium tour dates, originally scheduled for July and August in 2020, were postponed to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. It’s unclear whether “Loverfest” will be a “folklore,” “evermore,” and a presumed third mystery album (?) cry fest jam, but one thing’s for sure, New England fans will come out in troves for her whenever it happens.
